1936 Old Town 18' Sea Model

...out of the barn where she has been few quite a few years. This family is the second owner of this hull and she has been well cared for. The owner would like her seaworthy, trailer-able and have the capacity to be dry-sailed. (no soaking up time required). We elect to do some repairs (a keel, floor timbers and frame ends) and epoxy/glass the hull. I know, you purist are having a fit - but it is a reversible process that protects the integrity of the structure - as long as it is a properly prepared hull.

...With the inside gutted, we strip of the paint and primer on the overturned hull.

...we decide to glass the hull sides, then turn her over and remove the keel. This stiffened the hull and protected the planking while we removed the keel.

What a bulbous stem foot!

...The keel is out. We used a Fein tool to cut the fasteners. We replaced the 3" x 4" keel with a single solid piece of Sapelle mahogany.

...The keel in, repairs done, flipped back over, glassed down the center. Filled, faired and primed.

...decks and coamings stripped and sanded

...Kenny puts the first coat of paint in the bilges. Coamings are bedded and attached...

...stain and varnish...
