We have invested heavily in updating our finishing capabilities this year. It seems like every month there is a new group of finishing and fairing materials, each with their own special chemistry, set of requirements and list of incompatibilities. There is no longer a clear separation between products and technologies for fiberglass hulls and wood hulls. You have a wide choice of structural materials: all sorts of fiberglass weaves, carbon fiber, Kevlar, and Dynel. There are a dozen different epoxies, each with their own characteristics and compatibility issues. There are enamels, one-part polys, two-part polys, modified one-part with additives, and multi-component multi-layered systems. You now have to separate each different chemistry from the next with a complicated array of primers and sealers. Then there is the application method. Most modern finishes are better suited to be HVLP sprayed than brushed. It is our goal to provide our customers with the best modern finishing solution available, for their 1900 Fay and Bowen launch or their 1978 flatbottom sprint boat.
